VIDEO: Jordan Ayew’s impeccable record from 12 yards shows penalty is not about luck - Fatawu Dauda

Published on: 10 December 2019

As the conversation on how to solve Ghana’s penalty woes continues, former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has stressed that the issue has nothing to do with luck especially looking at how successful striker Jordan Ayew has been from 12 years in his career.

The Crystal Palace forward has taken as many as 10 penalties since 2013 and has managed to score all of the kicks in the process. A record that makes him stand tall when it comes to stepping up for the challenge from 12 yards.

Following recent penalty failures of various national teams including the Black Stars and the Black Meteors, the conversation on how to get over the ‘curse’ has sparkled with many bringing up a lot of suggestions.

A section of people also try to blame luck for penalty failures but certainly not Wa All Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda who strongly believes that it is all about practice and getting the technique right.

In an interview with Ghanaweb’s Sports Check program, the shot-stopper shared, “I don’t believe we are cursed. It’s time for us the players to learn about the techniques. If we learn the technique, trust me we’ll do well. Let me tell you one guy, Jordan. When I was in the national team after training the coach will give us 15 minutes for personal workouts. He will tell me, Lion if you save one, I will give you 50$ but I couldn’t save one”.
