Vincenzo Montella Insists Blame Lies With Him if Carlos Bacca Fails to Find Form

AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has insisted that the blame will lie in part with him if he fails to get the best out of Carlos Bacca this season as the striker's miserable spell continues.

Having scored 18 goals in his debut season for Milan, Bacca has just eight to his name this season and has only scored twice in his last 13 games.

"For us he [Bacca] is a major player," Montellatolda news conference. "I have a duty to get the best out of him and if that fails it is my fault."

Bacca reacted angrily when he was subbed off last week against Sampdoria, with his side trailing 1-0, and was also brought off in the previous game when Milan had two men sent off. The Colombian is now a doubt to start the game against Roma next time out.

"In the past he did better, not only in terms of goals. But I will not tell you now if he plays or not," the manager responded when asked whether or not the 30-year-old will feature against Roma.

"A false nine [Gerard Deulofeu]? Yes, I'm thinking about it. It's possible," he added. "It is right to give him praise for what he did [against Bologna]. It's fine to do it in the media but I also like to praise others."

The Spanish winger came on against Bologna to set up a late goal in a game that Milan went on to win 1-0, meaning that he stands a much better chance at the moment of starting up top against Roma.

Eighth in the league, Il Rossoneri will need to start picking up some better results sooner rather than later if they want to finish anywhere near European qualification.

Whether that's with Bacca or Deulofeu up front remains to be seen, but up against a Roma side who have scored more goals than any other team in the league bar Napoli, they'll need to produce some goals of their own.
