'We are sorry' - Asante Kotoko apologize to journalist ejected from Len Clay Stadium

The hierarchy of Asante Kotoko has apologized to the journalist who was bundled from the Len Clay Stadium during their game against Karela United FC on Wednesday.

The Porcupine Warriors hosted Karela at Obuasi in the matchday 30 games, a game Kotoko recorded a 2-1 win.

Mariano Barreto’s side needed goals from Emmanuel Gyamfi and Fabio Gama to down their opponents, with Diawisie Taylor grabbing Karela’s consolation goal.

However, Kotoko’s second goal, a penalty that was converted by Gama, courted controversy in the aftermath of the game.

However, pictures emerged after the game showing a journalist being hurled out of the commentary box by some Asante Kotoko supporters.

According to the report, the journalist who was on duty for Accra based MAX FM claimed the penalty awarded Kotoko was dubious, a comment that apparently angered some Kotoko fans to take matters into their own hands.

But the Administrative Manager of Asante Kotoko, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, in an interview said the club is investigating the incident and rendered a full apology for the said journalist.

“I would want to unreservedly apologize for what happened to the journalist," he told Citi Sports.

"This has not come to our attention officially but we have seen the photos and we are very sorry for what happened.

“When we play matches, a lot of things happen on our blind side and we will take this up and investigate it further because journalist should feel free and safe in the line of their duty,” he added.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will be hosted by their rivals, Hearts of Oak in the matchday 31 games at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The game has been scheduled to kick off at 15:00GMT.
