We have failed Ghanaians- Black Stars player Agyeman Badu

Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyeman Badu has admitted that the senior National football team, the Black Stars has failed Ghanaians for their inability to win a major title in three decades.

The midfielder was twice disappointed in the finals in 2010 and 2015 when Ghana lost to Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.

The Black Stars made it to their 6th consecutive semifinal in Gabon 2017 but have failed to win the trophy in all these attempts.

The 26 year old who is in the country after a long season with club side Udinese told local Radio station Peace FM how sad they are as players to disappoint in each occasion.

“Is been over 34 years we won, and recently we have been making it to the semi-finals, I think if you ask me I will say we have failed the country, not only the country but we have failed ourselves as well,” he told Peace FM.

“I remember the opportunity many of us got after winning the U20 World Cup, it gave me the chance to play for Udinese.

“It is very disappointing because we have been making it to the semis in the last five or so editions and I will say we have disappointed the country.

Meanwhile, Agyeman Badu believes the country can end it 35 year drought by winning the trophy soon.

“But all hope is not lost, I believe and have confident in this team and I know we will surely win.

“We the players ourselves are disturbed because we have a whatsapp group and we normally talk about this issue,” he added.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup winner has however been omitted from the squad for the International friendlies against Mexico and the United States.

Ghana will play the United States after losing to Mexico in the first friendly played on Thursday.
