West Ham sack Manuel Pellegrini amid relegation fight

West Ham have sacked Manuel Pellegrini following the team's loss against Leicester City on Saturday.

The 2-1 loss at London Stadium left the Hammers just one point above the relegation zone, prompting the club to make the change.

"It has become clear that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season," the club said in statement. "We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal.''

Manuel Pellegrini lost his job at West Ham United on Saturday.

The Chilean took over at West Ham in May 2018. He had stints at Manchester City and Real Madrid. He helped City win the Premier League title in 2013-14, as well as two League Cup trophies.

"Of course, when you are a manager and you don't have the points we need to have, of course it is difficult," Pellegrini said on Saturday when asked about his job prior to the announcement. "But I have experience, you must try to continue convincing that it is the right way to do it. Football is all about results."
