World Cup 2022: Charlton Athletic boss Ben Garner backs Jojo Wollacott for number 1 spot in Qatar

Charlton Athletic manager, Ben Garner wants Black Stars coach Otto Addo to keep Jojo Wollacott as the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2022 World Cup.

The English League One coach believes Wollacot has proven to be one of the best shot-stoppers since his debut in October last year and deserves to start in Qatar.

Since making his debut for the Black Stars, Wollacott has been the preferred choice for Ghana in competitive games including keeping the post at the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the World Cup playoff game against Nigeria.

Speaking to London News Online, Ben Garner said he is looking forward to Wollacott starting for the Black Stars at the mundial.

“He [Wollacott] has been their number one for the best part of the last year,”

“I’d expect him to not only be in the squad but hopefully to be starting in the games for them.”

Wollacott was instrumental for the club in their EFL Cup game against Stevenage as he a penalty to see his side progress to the next stage of the competition.

The biggest soccer mundial has been scheduled for November and December this year, with 32 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy in Qatar.

Ghana will open their World Cup account against Portugal before taking Uruguay and South Korea respectively.
