World Cup 2022: Defending champions France off to a flying start after 4-1 comeback win against Australia

France started off their defense of the FIFA World Cup trophy on Tuesday with an emphatic 4-1 win against Australia in Group D.

Following the start of the 2022 edition of the mundial on Sunday, November 20, the global showpiece has gradually shaped up with a number of exciting contests.

Today, Australia shocked France under 10 minutes into the first half of the Group D game when Craig Goodwin equalised in the 9th minute to shoot his national team into the lead.

Despite going behind, France remained resolute and gradually grew into the match.

After taking control of the encounter, the world champions eventually restored parity in the 27th minute when Adrien Rabiot found the back of the net.

Five minutes later, France took the lead through a strike from AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud.

After recess, France continued to dominate play and scored two more goals to put the game to bed.

First, superstar Kylian Mbappe found the back of the Australia net to increase the lead for the defending champions before Olivier Giroud got his second in the 71st minute to seal the impressive 4-1 comeback win.

The win means France goes top of Group D and with a good chance to qualify for the knockout stage.
