Cities in Morocco were flooded with citizens on Tuesday evening after the Atlas Lions progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Morocco national team cruised past Spain 3-0 on penalties to become only the fourth African country to reach the last eight stages of the tournament.

In the Round 16 match between Morocco and Spain, both teams put up a spirited performance throughout the 90 minutes, but neither side could score in 90 minutes.

Subsequently, the match travelled into extra time for a chance for the two sides to try and find a goal to decide the game.

With no goals in 30 minutes, it all came down to the penalty shootout to settle the contest.

Unfortunately, for Spain, none of the three players that had the chance to play managed to score.

With Morocco scoring three out of four kicks, the Atlas Lions are celebrating another massive win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup that is sending the side to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

After the win, there were massive celebrations not only in Qatar but back home in Morocco where Moroccans took to the streets of cities to cheer in delight for the national team’s success.
