World Cup 2022: Uruguay captain Diego Godin calls on teammates to push to beat Ghana

Captain of the Uruguay national team, Diego Godin has expressed optimism about the chances of securing a win against the Black Stars of the Ghana later this week.

According to him, now is the time for the squad to come together and focus on the much-needed win to advance to the knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“We have one final left!!! Time to be all together, work, believe and have courage!!! I invite each Uruguayan to push and send good energy from wherever they are, to qualify,” Diego Godin shared on Instagram after Uruguayl’s 2-0 defeat to Portugal.

On his part, striker Luis Suarez also said, “All defeats hurt, especially in a World Cup. Now it's time to be together as a group and not look for more excuses. Winning and qualifying, that's our goal. Trust us that we are going to drop everything .”

The two players are expected to be in action for Uruguay when they take on Ghana in the final Group H match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday, December 2.

Uruguay will need to win that game to stand any chance of advancing to the Round of 16 of the tournament ongoing in Qatar.

The opponent, Ghana only needs a draw to secure qualification to Round 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
