Ghana midfielder Salis Abdul Samed says the Black Stars is under rebuilding and has therefore called on Ghanaians to exercise some patience for the team after failing to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
The Black Stars were eliminated after the first round of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.
After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the last 16 stage.
But the team failed to negotiate for points against their ‘enemies’ Uruguay.
Ghana made a strong start to the game, but fell apart after captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute, a repeat of what happened in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Speaking to 3Sports, the RC Lens midfielder asserted the Black Stars performed despite the players not knowing each other.
“To me, we are now building the team. We are learning because we don’t know each other, I think we could have done much more if we knew each other. I think that if the staff, management and the President, Kurt Okraku could keep the same team or make some additions because we have good players in Europe, it’s a buildup team and I think we have the qualities just that we don’t know each other much”
“Even though we don’t know each other much we did well, though the nation is a bit sad because we were unable to qualify. We did our best, everyone gave his all, I think this team is very solid just we don’t know each other” he said.
The Black Stars will now shift attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to begin in earnest.
The four-time African champions sit top of Group D with four points from the first two games of the qualifiers.
