The head coach for Zamalek, Patrice Cartier has backed the decision by the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) to stage the semi-finals and final of this year’s CAF Champions League in Cameroon.

Due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has rocked the countries on the continent, CAF at an Executive Committee meeting via video conferencing last Tuesday announced that the remaining stages of the competition will be staged in Cameroon.

Speaking on the decision, French tactician Patrice Cartier who is the coach for Egyptian side Zamalek has stressed how it will protect teams from the disease.

“I respect the decisions of the African Union to hold semi-final and final matches from one match only, which will provide more protection for the teams and less travel, and therefore will not be exposed to the frequent travel stress that was happening before”, the gaffer said.

The competition is expected to restart later in September with CAF likely to announce the dates for the various games in the next few weeks.

At the semi-final stage, Zamalek will face Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca with Al Ahly set to face Wydad AC.
