2019 cup of Nations: We will try and win third place for our fans – Alex Iwobi

Nigerian International, Alex Iwobi has stressed that the Super Eagles will try and beat the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia later today to ensure they clinch third place in the 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African giant has enjoyed a very good campaign in this year’s continental showdown currently ongoing in Egypt despite losing to Algeria in the semi-finals.

A last-minute free-kick converted by Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez was enough to give the Desert Foxes a 2-1 victory to send them into the finals ahead of the Super Eagles.

Now set to face Tunisia in the third-place match as the tournament nears its conclusion, Nigeria winger Alex Iwobi insist the team will do all they can to win because it will be equally good to go home with a third-place finish.

“We have one last game and we will try and win it. Yes, we didn’t reach the final but playing for the third place is also great”.

“I believe that I delivered a great performance and it’s not over yet. The rest of the players know that we still have a chance to go back home with our heads lifted”, the Arsenal attacker said in a pre-match interview on Tuesday.

Today’s match will be played at the Al Salam Stadium at 19:00GMT.
