Andre Ayew was never injured ahead of Angola trip - Charles Taylor alleges

Ghana football legend, Charles Taylor has alleged that Andre Ayew was never injured ahead of Black Stars' reverse leg game against Angola on Monday.

Having been left out of Black Stars squad for the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Ghana Football Association on Saturday announced that Andre, together with Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, and Dennis Odoi will miss the reverse trip to Luanda for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers due to various injuries.

Andre's sudden injury dominated the local media.

However, Taylor claimed that the Nottingham Forest player was upset about not playing in the first leg hence his decision not to travel for the second leg.

"The injured players who have left the team is good but not entirely because we know what they can do for the team but I'm struggling to believe the excuse for Dede that he is injured because he didn't even play the game. I believe there is something there and it is not that he is injured," he told Angel TV.

"Maybe he was an angle that they didn't allow him to play the first leg and that is why he has dropped out of the squad. The medical team has said he is injured but I don't believe that. He is angry that he didn't play and that is why he is not going to Angola."

He added that Andre Dede Ayew was added to the list of injured players because the technical handlers of the Black Stars wanted to manage the situation.

"Yes, the medical team said he is injured but we are in Ghana. They said that because they didn't want him to receive the backlash from the public."

Ghana, however, held Angola to a 1-1 drawn game to maintain their perfect start to the qualifiers with eight points followed by Central African Republic, who moved to second after back-to-back wins over Madagascar. Angola drop to third with five points, while Madagascar are out of the race for qualification.
