Andy Carroll Wins Premier League January Goal of the Month for Stunning Bicycle Kick

Published on: 09 February 2017

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has been handed the Premier League's Carling Goal of the Month award for his spectacular bicycle kick against Crystal Palace.

The acrobatic, thunderous stunner helped the Hammers win the crucial home game.

Carroll beat off competition from Arsenal's Olivier Giroud, whose 'scorpion kick' right at the start of the month, also against Crystal Palace,had sent Gunners fans into hysteria.

But if supporters were miffed it didn't win December Goal of the Month over Henrikh Mkhitaryan's similar effort for Manchester United (they actually were as well!), imagine how the shoutiest fans on social media are feeling after it still didn't win when it was actually eligible.

@carling @premierleague @AndyTCarroll agenda against Arsenal

Where's Giroud?!!

@carling @AndyTCarroll Giroud > carroll

Conspiracy! Conspiracy!

@afcstuff everyone has an agenda against arsenal

Can you believe Carroll's 'everyday goal' won?! Neither can they....

@afcstuff That scorpion goal by Giroud is not everyday goal like that of Caroll's goal so on this Giroud was robbed again.Shame..

It's almost as if it was judged purely on the actual goal. The cheek of it.

@afcstuff the go ahead goal in a tough Game versus 3 defenders after an amazing attack vs a wide open bicycle kick to Go 3-0 up. Alright

'Donkey kick' is right.

If you think Olivier Giroud's donkey kick was better than Andy Carroll's marriage of power and barbarian beauty you are an Arsenal fan.

Carroll at least nodded to Giroud when he accepted the award.

"I'm delighted to have won the Goal of the Month competition, especially given how good some of the other goals were," he told WHUFC.com.

"As soon as I hit it I knew it was in, I got a good connection and knew it would hit the back of the net. It's definitely the best goal I've ever scored, one I'm very proud of."
