Asamoah Gyan's wish to rejoin the Black Stars was welcomed by Dr. Tony Aubynn, a member of the Ghana Football Association Executive Council, but he added that the striker should only be considered if he is in excellent physical condition and is prepared to participate.

Gyan in an interview with the BBC said he is keen on playing for the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar.

Reacting to Gyan's bid to rejoin the Black Stars with GNA Dr Aubynn said: “For me I was delighted to hear that, everybody wants to see Asamoah Gyan's revenge against Uruguay, but it should be the Asamoah Gyan who is in top shape and fit to play."

Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Ghana national team, with 51 goals. He represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

The 37 year old last played for country during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Egypt.
