Bayern Munich Monitoring Arsenal Midfielder Granit Xhaka Despite Slow Start at Emirates

Bayern Munich are considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to former Switzerland managerOttmar Hitzfeld.


Xhaka is yet to convince Premier League audiences of his pedigree, having picked up a reputation for poor discipline during his short stay at the Emirates. He joined the north London club for £30m last summer and has picked up two red cards and eight cautions so far this season.


The Switzerland international is yet to reproduce his Borussia Monchengladbach form with Arsenal, and Hitzfeld, who won the Champions League as Bayern Munich manager, claims his former club are interested in signing the 24-year-old.

Bayern Munich certainly has Xhaka on their radar,� Hitzfeld told Basler Zeitung.


Xhaka is always a topic for current top clubs, and his development is still ongoing.�


Xhaka impressed during his time withMonchengladbach, gaining a reputation as a fine passer alongside strong ball interception and aerial duel attributes. He has made 20 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, scoring once and adding an assist.

Gunners fans expected Xhaka to assert himself as one of the club's first-choice midfielders, but he is yet to establish himself ahead of the likes of Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey andAlex Oxlade-Chamberlain.


Xhaka made 108 Bundesligaappearances for Monchengladbach between 2012 and 2016, scoring six goals, having previously played for Swiss Super Leagueside Basel.


Hitzfeld worked with Xhaka with Switzerland between 2011 and 2014, with the national team reaching the 2014 World Cup during the former Borussia Dortmund manager's spell as head coach.
