BREAKING NEWS: CAF adopts one-off tie for champions league and confederations cup finals

Published on: 17 July 2019

The President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad has confirmed that the body has taken a decision to adopt a one-off tie for the finals of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup moving forward.

The two inter-club competitions have in time past been played as a home and away fixture even at the finals. Though there had already been calls for that format to be changed, nothing was done until today when the Executive Committee Members of the football governing body held a meeting in Cairo.

Among many decision that has been taken today, one of the standouts has to do with the fact that CAF has decided to play the finals of both the Champions League and the Confederations Cup in a one-off tie that will be played at a neutral ground.

According to reports, the decision that was taken is to ensure that the controversy that resulted from the finals of the last edition of the CAF Confederations Cup between Moroccan side WAC and Esperance of Tunisia will not occur in the future.

President Ahmad Ahmad revealed the new decision in a post on his official twitter handle.
