Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak winger Bernard Don Bortey says Ghana coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor is a no-nonsense coach and has urged him to succeed in his new role.

The 46-year-old replaced Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Blacks Stars in January after a brief spell as assistant coach to the latter.

As part of his mandate, coach CK Akonnor has been tasked to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and also qualify the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup to held in Qatar.

Speaking on FOX FM, Don Bortey disclosed that Akonnor’s no-nonsense approach will be key in succeeding as head coach of the team.

"CK Akonnor is a no-nonsense coach, he will not be influenced by even the sports minister on player call ups,” he told FOX FM.

"What CK Akonnor has done in football none of those playing for the Black Stars has done so, he will not listen to those who will ask him to use their players, so for the Black Stars coaching job he can do it easily."
