Everton's Under-23s Set to Take Part in 'Goodison Sleepout' Fundraiser for Club's Official Charity

Everton's Under-23 squad is set to take part in a charity event to help raise funds for the city of Liverpool's homeless and vulnerable community.

Under-23 boss David Unsworth has signed his young players up to the charity's 'Goodison Sleepout' event on November 25 to raise money for vulnerable people, including those who will spend the festive period on the streets, across the city region, according to the club's official website.

The club's official charity, Everton in the Community, which has won a multitude of regional, national and international awards since 2010 due to the work it undertakes within the city of Liverpool, are the brains behind the initiative, and will hope to raise as much money as possible for those in need.

Unsworth will be joined by assistant manager John Ebbrell and Toffees legend Joe Royle, as well as all members of the current Under-23 playing set up.

Everton supporters, business club members and other fundraisers will also take to the Park End stand of Goodison Park, armed with sleeping bags, plenty of hot drinks and warm clothing for the all-night event to replicate just what it's like to be homeless on freezing, wintry nights anywhere in the UK.

Former Everton star Unsworth said: Having worked closely with Denise (Baxendale, EitC Executive Chair) and Everton in the Community over the years I am well aware of the fantastic work that we do in supporting vulnerable and underprivileged people across Liverpool.

Together we can play a big part in helping to raise awareness of homelessness and myself and my team are committed to making a contribution to supporting these individuals when they hit difficult times.

Looking after the homeless is the right thing to do. Everyone should have a roof over their heads and everyone should have the right opportunities available to them when they are struggling. In my role and in their role as an aspiring Under-23 player, we have a responsibility to reach out and help those in need.

Everton Under-23 captain Jonjoe Kenny added: Everyone deserves a chance in life and at times we don't realise just how lucky we are so it'll be great for us to get involved and give back. I think there might be a few lads who might get a bit cold on the night but it's all for a great cause so we will give it a good go!
