Ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah to contest as Independent Candidate ahead of 2024 elections

 Former Black Stars, Stephen Appiah will contest as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections in December.

Appiah is expected to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat.

This staggering development was revealed by a close pal, Fiifi Tackie, who is the spokesperson of the Ayew family.

Appiah will have to shrug off competition from incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP and highly-rated John Dumelo, who is also contesting on the ticket of NDC.

Stephen Appiah is famously remembered for leading the Black Stars as the captain to secure qualification for its maiden World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006.

He also led the team to secure World Cup qualification for the second time in South Africa in 2010.

Appiah was a member of the Ghana national team, which he represented at youth, Olympic, and senior levels.

Appiah, who played for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League also played for the likes of Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus, Fenerbahçe, Cesena and Vojvodina.

He made 67 appearances for the Black Stars and scored 15 goals.
