Fiamenyo reveals the reason behind Kenya move

Former Hearts of Oak striker, Gilbert Fiamenyo has disclosed that he purposely joined the Kenyan League for money.

The bulky striker, who up until recently was on the books of Ebusua Dwarfs in the Ghana Premier League signed for AFC Leopard on a one year deal, but there were suggestions he was forced out of the club after being handed an indefinite suspension together with the club’s second choice goalkeeper Akwesi Acheampong for gross indiscipline.

Nevertheless, the ex-Heart of Lions goal machine declined to confirm or deny the rumour and rather chose to focus on the task ahead as he feels playing for his new club can be compared to playing for the two giant clubs in Ghana.

In an exclusive interview with Reuben Obodai of Happy FM sports, Gilbert Fiamenyo confessed that,

“I must say that I joined AFC Leopard basically for financial purposes. I’m not shy to say that I was enticed by the money involved because at my age, I feel it’s time for me to make good money because after featuring for some of the big teams in the country and I think the time is right to move abroad and test my wits in a different league, but money played a major role in my decision to join AFC Leopard.”

“I’m happy to have secured the move to play in Kenya and more especially for a big club like AFC Leopard, who in my opinion is as big as Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko because they feature regularly in CAF competitions. I don’t know much about the club itself but I’m aware that playing their league gives u a big exposure mainly because most of their games are shown on DSTV, which has a wide coverage range across Africa and beyond.”

“I’ve heard so many rumours that I was forced out from Dwarfs, but I will not make any comment on it. I only have good things to say about the club because in my heart I know I have no problem with them, and would like to thank them for everything they did for me in my time there.”

AFC Leopard is the most successful club in Kenya after winning a record 13 league titles,8 Kenya Cup and 5 CECAFA Club Championship, but could only manage 7th position finish last season.
