GFA to form a 5-member committee for the implementation of an 18-club DOL competition

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to form a 5-member committee to oversee the smooth transition of the 48-club Division One League to an 18-club competition.

This was announced on Thursday when the Ghana FA through a statement said it 'has taken a decision to form a 5-member committee for the implementation of the transitional provision on the number of participating clubs in the National Division One League'.

According to the body, the decision to set up the advisory committee is in compliance with Article 81(6) of the GFA Statutes 2019.

The 5-member ad-hoc committee will be made up of three persons nominated by the 48 Division One League Clubs and two persons from the GFA.

Once formed, the committee would advise the Executive Council on the format, the possible name of the new 18-club Division One League, the phases of the implementation, whether or not a third-tier League will be required and its format.

The GFA expects the 18-club Division One League competition to begin after 2 years.
