Hugo Lloris' Wage Demands Threatening to Derail Contract Extension as Daniel Levy Refuses to Budge

Tottenham's goalkeeper and captain, Hugo Lloris, is currently in a stand-off with the club over signing a contract extension, according to reports in theMirror.

The Frenchman is understood to be keen on extending his current deal at White Hart Lane, which runs out in 2019. However, while his club are also keen to enter negotiations, they are currently unwilling to meet Lloris' wage demands.

Chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to deviate fromthe current wage structure at the club, with no player currently earning more than £80k. Lloris is one of the team's highest paid players, but is reportedly eager to earn more than the maximum £100k that Levy is prepared to offer any of his employees.

The Spurs goalkeeper, regarded as one of the best in the world, knows he could earn a significantly higher wage elsewhere in Europe, but he remains keen to stay in North London.

With the Northumberland Project now well underway, Spurs' new stadium is expected to be complete and ready by the start of the 2018/19 season. With the cost of their new home likely to exceed £400m, Levy remains cautious with the rest of the club's finances and is likely to stick to his principle of having a £100k cap on wages.

This cap may in turnhave an effect on Harry Kane's possible contract extension as well, with the striker seeking to double his current earnings, which would take him up to the maximum £100k.

Should he wish to exceed that figure, he too could be in a similar position to that of teammate Lloris.

Whilst Tottenham have admitted they are in no rush to extend either player's current deals, they are hopeful of tying down centre back Jan Vertonghen. The club believe that an agreement is close to being reached and could well be finalised in the next few weeks.
