Koeman Calls on Everton's Forwards to Increase Productivity in Bid to End 5-Match Winless Run

Published on: 29 October 2016

Ronald Koeman has urged his attacking options at Everton to improve their productivity as the Toffees go in search of a first victory in five league matches.

Everton are currently in the midst of a five-match winless run in all competitions, and have found the back of the net on just three occasions in their last four Premier League outings.

It's the kind ofform that has led to manager Koeman calling outthose supporting star striker Romelu Lukaku to up their performance levels and get the Blues back to winning ways - starting with Sunday's opponents West Ham United - in quotes published by the Daily Mail.

He said: "Overall I am happy about the defensive organisation in the team, but not our offensive aspect.

"We need to improve and be more clinical. We need to have more productivity.

"It's a big difference between Romelu and the rest in scoring goals and we need to make that better."

The Dutchman also issued a rallying cry to the rest of his first-team squad to turn their recent run of bad form around, before insisting that the group of players available to him had the character and personality traits to help Everton climb out of a rut.

He continued: "Of course, we know if you don't win in your last four in the Premier League, then every time you come more close to a must-win game. We need to turn it around.

"It happened also at Southampton - it is not always sunny. You don't win always. You get in difficult, tough times and then, really, you need to support each other. That's important.

"If everything goes well it's easy to come in the team and play. But we need now really the personalities to turn it around, and I think we have enough personalities in the team."

Everton host a resurgent Hammers side at Goodison Park in Sunday's lunch time kick off, with Slaven Bilic's men having won each of the last three games in all competitions.

Koeman, though, is optimistic over his side's chances of getting back to winning ways themselves, and added that positive results will come if his players keep on believing in his methods.

He said: "What I have learned is if you are in a tough time, stay calm and do your job.

"I believe in the way we do our job at Everton and results will come. We need to be prepared for the next (match) and it is a difficult one, but we play at home and I'm really confident in a good result."
