Liverpool Goalkeeper Left on Crutches After Bizarre Fly-Related Injury

Published on: 06 November 2016

Caomihin Kelleher may not be a name that many Liverpool fans will have heard of, yet alone the rest of the world.

The goalkeeper currently plays for the club's U23 side and has been in impressive form in recent weeks. Sadly for the Irishman, he is set to miss a few gamesand is now making headlines for the kind of reason that most footballers dread.

Kelleher is facing a spell on the sidelines after getting nailed by a fly.

Yep that's right, the pesky insect bit one ofthe 17-year-old's legs and clearly had something nasty festering inside him after the bite became infected which createdan abscesson the goalkeeper's shin.

All of which sounds pretty gruesome and thankfully for those of you of a nervous disposition, the teenagerhas yet to share a photo of the bite with the internet.

Michael Beale, the Liverpool U23 coach, gave theLiverpool Echoan update on the injury:It's a strange one. He had like an abscess on his shin, he just got an infection from a bite. It's nothing major, it just kept him out of the next few days.

We thought it would go like a normal bite, unfortunately the flies over at Kirkby must be a bit stronger than the rest of the country!

He's just had a reaction to something, nothing major.

So there you have itfolks, clearly Kirby isn't the place to go, not anytime soon at least.

Poor oldKelleher will at least make a full recovery from the bizarre injury, but may struggle to live down the fact that he got taken out by a fly.
