Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho may have to sit out the Reds' trip to Southampton on Saturday with injury.

The Brazilian, who has just returned to England after featuring for his country on international duty, was reportedly spotted at Liverpool's Spire Hospital on Thursday afternoon after undergoing a scan, according to theLiverpool Echo.

Coutinho featured in Brazil's World Cup qualifying games against Argentina and Peru, which would have Liverpool fans worried with players picking up injuries while on international duty remaining a hot topic lately.

Coutinho and compatriot Roberto Firmino were present at Melwood on Thursday but neither player took part in training, but that is more likely due to recovery needed after their long trip back from South America.

Klopp may have a selection headache should Coutinho miss the game, with the German coach already set to miss the services of Adam Lallana after the midfielder hobbled out of England's friendly draw with Spain on Tuesday night.

The Reds boss may hand starts to Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge as a result.

Klopp also quashed reports linking Coutinho with a big-money move to Barcelona and Real Madrid in the future, saying the dynamo's future belongs on Merseyside.

"We all hope and think his future is here at Liverpool," Klopp said during his press conference on Thursday. "What everybody forgets about Phil is that he is still very young. At 24, he has a long way to go and lot of space for improvement.

"He is now at the age where skills and mixture with experience give him more consistency. With the team-mates around, he is getting better and better. I'm sure he has only started so that's all good."
