Head Coach of Black Queens Madam Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has lamented over the lack of female competitive games, which she believes has affected the performance of  female players and makes it tiring in player selection to the national team.

Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo with her 30-woman squad have been camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram for three week in preparation for Olympics qualifiers against Gabon.

Speaking exclusively to NBSportslive she stated.

“I’m very very worried about lack of women’s football competition in the country, because we use to play FA Cup, Special Cup, League matches and Champions of Champions and now they are no more.”

“It is bringing the performance and the level of what we know Ghana female football to be down. The Black Queens gaffer did not hesitate to show her displeasure on the fact that it makes it difficult for her to make call ups during national assignment".

“As a coach of a national team whenever you assemble your players for camping it becomes very difficult and you need to put in so much effort because you can’t break them down. If you don’t take care and limit the intensity of the training it might bring a problem because you will not have enough time to catch and their performance will be abysmal and I’m seriously worried about that".

Ghana will begin their quest to qualify to Tokyo 2020 against Gabon on August 28. The Senior National Women’s team has eluded qualifications to the Olympics since 2000 and will be seeking for a slot to the Tokyo 2020 games starting with a doubleheader against Gabon.
