THIAW: "I’M JOINING WITH A LOT OF AMBITION"

Published on: 08 September 2022

Malick Thiaw arrived in Milan in the final few days of the transfer window and, after his first training sessions at Milanello, has already experienced the emotion of a derby win at San Siro. The 21-year-old was officially unveiled to the media today, with his first press conference as an AC Milan player:

CAREER PATH
"I started playing football from a very young age, playing with my friends on the street. It was a passion, which then became a profession but the passion is still ahead of everything else. I'm an ambitious person and like to set objectives. It's an honour to be here, I'm personally very proud and happy. I realise I'm here with a top-class Coach and team, and for this reason I want to develop, learn and play in as many games as possible".

THE FUTURE WITH THE ROSSONERI
"I think I'm a strong player, good in aerial battles and at tackling, I can move the ball as well and my speed and athleticism helps me with this. I have to show my aggressiveness and strength in the hope that I can convince the Head Coach to put in the team already from January onwards".

THE CLUB'S TRUST
"I realise the Club has invested a lot in me and I'm really grateful for the five-year contract. It's now up to me to show my worth to the team in every game and training session; that all depends on me".

PERSONAL SATISFACTION
"AC Milan is a symbolic Club, it's always had great defenders, like Maldini and Nesta. As a youngster, I wasn't a defender but I liked other players, such as Ronaldinho and Kaká. Talks had already been had with the Club in winter. I took the interest from AC Milan as a sign of my good performances in the last few years and the hard work I've been putting in on the training field".

WELCOME
"Everything is new for me, training is very intense, not necessarily long, but always with a tactical focus. I've only been here for a week but I've already learnt lots, tactics are a lot different here to Germany. I'll push myself to learn all I can, there are lots of things to be taken in. Everyone has been really friendly and welcomed me with open arms. My debut at San Siro against the biggest rival in such a big game, in front of a fired-up, sold-out ground, was an unbelievable experience".
