Thierry Henry lifts lid on why Eddie Nketiah left Chelsea to join Arsenal

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has disclosed why English-born Ghanaian forward Eddie Nketiah left London rivals Chelsea to join the Gunners.

Nketiah started his playing career with Chelsea after being scouted at the age of nine while playing for south-east London Sunday team Hillyfielders. He was later released by Chelsea in 2015.

He then joined the Arsenal Academy and played for the club at youth levels. The 23-year-old has since has established himself at Arsenal.

"He was at Chelsea in his early years. People don’t know that," Henry said as quoted by HITC, adding: "Because Tammy Abraham was there and doing what he was doing, he left Chelsea to come to Arsenal."

Last season, Nketiah, who returned to Arsenal in January 2020 after a loan spell at Leeds United, made 21 top-flight appearances, scored five goals, and provided one assist.

He is currently being relied upon in the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus. He scored in their 3-1 win over West Ham on Monday in the Premier League.

Nketiah has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal this season, scored four goals and provided one assist.
