Wigan Athletic are in discussion with Joe Dodoo about a new contract

Ipswich should drop their chase of striker Joe Dodoo after Wigan announced that the former Rangers centre-forward has been offered a new contract.

Wigan have listed Dodoo as one of the players they hope to maintain beyond the conclusion of their current contract this summer. Dodoo is poised to become a free agent at the end of the month, but Wigan is trying to get him to sign a new contract to keep him at the club for next season.

According to Football Insider, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday, and Rotherham United are all interested in signing the striker as they consider their options in the summer market. Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing the forward to improve their squad for the 2021/22 season.

Wigan are desperate to keep Dodoo, as seen by their announcement, and this might make a deal for Ipswich extremely tough. Ipswich may negotiate directly with Dodoo as a free agent and avoid paying a transfer fee, but this will not be the case if he agrees new terms with Wigan and stays a contracted player through July.

The fact that Dodoo is negotiating a new contract with Wigan complicates the matter, and the striker is not worth the headache for Ipswich. To begin with, Dodoo has been a journeyman throughout his career, having previously played for Bolton, Rangers, Blackpool, Bury, Charlton, Leicester, and Ankara Keciörengücü before joining Wigan at the age of 25.

He has struggled to find a home at any club, with 27 appearances for Bolton the most he has played for a single senior team.
