World Cup 2022: Walid Regragui unhappy with Morocco conceding cheap goals against France

Morocco coach Walid Regragui is disappointed his side conceded cheap goals against France in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup on Wednesday.

Prior to the game, the Atlas Lions had kept four clean sheets in five matches, only denied 100 per cent record by an own goal conceded against Canada in the group stage.

France took an early lead through Theo Hernandez’s scrambled fifth minute goal before substitute Kolo Muani made it 2-0 in the 79th minute to ensure they will defend their crown against Argentina and Lionel Messi at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

"Today, if I have regrets, it's the start of the game," Regragui told reporters. "We started quite poorly and we conceded a goal very quickly and that made the difference.

"They allowed us to have quite a lot of possession, but we made too many mistakes to cause them problems."

"But I think physically, we came up short tonight. We had too many players who were 60 per cent or 70 per cent, and have been for a few games now," he added.

"My players gave everything and they've gone as far as they could. I really wanted to rewrite the history books, but you can't win a World Cup with miracles, you need to do it through hard work. And that's what we're going to do."
