World Cup 2022: We weren't clinical against France - Morocco coach Walid Regragui

Published on: 15 December 2022

Morocco coach Walid Regragui believes his side’s performance in their 2-0 defeat against France in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup was good enough but admitted they needed to be more clinical.

The Atlas Lions made history becoming the first African side to reach the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup, following their 1-0 win over Portugal at the quarter finals but they fell short against holders.

France took an early lead through Theo Hernandez’s scrambled fifth minute goal before substitute Kolo Muani made it 2-0 in the 79th minute to ensure they will defend their crown against Argentina and Lionel Messi at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

"We created a lot of opportunities, but unfortunately we weren't clinical in the last third," Regragui told reporters

"We tried everything to get a goal but congratulations to France. We're going to support them now."

"In spite of all of the injuries that we had, the tiredness, we pulled out all the stops and we gave everything."
