2022 World Cup: Otto Addo can only decide Asamoah Gyan's wish to return to Black Stars - Samuel Eto'o

Africa football legend, Samuel Eto’o says he is excited about Asamoah Gyan's desire to return to the Black Stars but his wish could only be determined by the head coach of the side, Otto Addo.

Gyan, who last played for the Black Stars in 2019 during the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Egypt speaking to the BBC earlier this week confirmed his desire to return to Ghana's squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 37-year-old has been criticized for voicing out his desire to return to the national team despite being clubless.

But Eto’o speaking to TV3 reiterated that he is happy that Ghana’s all-time top scorer wants to play in Qatar.

However, Eto’o added that the decision to include Gyan is in the hands of Otto Addo, who will name Ghana’s final World Cup squad.

“I am happy that Asamoah Gyan has the desire to return [to the Black Stars]," Eto’o, who is a former Cameroon national team captain said.

"Asamoah Gyan’s place in the World Cup is the decision of the coach,” Eto’o, a Qatar Legacy Ambassador, who is in Ghana for a two-day working visit added.

Gyan has six goals at the World Cup, making him Africa’s leading scorer.

Ghana will face Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in the group stage of the World Cup, which begins on November 20.
