Appointing Chris Hughton as technical advisor gave GFA opportunity to study him - Nana Oduro Sarfo

Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, says appointing Chris Hughton as Black Stars technical advisor has given the FA the opportunity to study him before giving him the job on a permanent basis.

The GFA has now given the former Brighton boss the Ghana job and is set to start his stint with 2023 AFCON qualifying games against Angola later in March.

“The man was interested. We had the opportunity to talk to the man; about three people spoke to the man one-on-one and we saw that the man had the desire to work for Ghana,” Joy Sports.

“Then we said ok, we want to make you the technical advisor to be with the team so at least we can monitor you from there and then we took pains.

“I for instance, I never knew anything about Chris Hughton till he came here.

“We started reading about him and then after the competition, we knew that Otto Addo, even if he had won the World Cup, wouldn’t have stayed because he has a contract with Dortmund and he was going to respect that contract, so he will go.”

Chris Hughton will be unveiled as the new Black Stars head coach on Monday in Kumasi ahead of the beginning of his tenure against Angola.
