Hornets Boss Walter Mazzarri Opens Up and Gives Five Reasons Why He Joined Watford

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has revealed five reasons why he joined the Hornets in the summer, the first of which being his amicable relationship with ownerGiampaolo Pozzo.

The 55-year-old Italian manager, who was sacked by Inter Milan in 2014 after a string of disappointing results, became Watford's manager at the start of July, replacing popular ex-bossQuique Sánchez Flores.

Mazzarri has started life well at Vicarage Road, guiding the Hornets to eighth after 11 games having beaten the likes of West Ham, Hull City and Manchester United.

And although it's his first job in English football, Mazzarri sees the similarities between the Premier League and his more familiar Serie A.

Speaking toCorriere dello Sport, Mazzarri said:"Life is not very different from that in Naples or Milan.

"The only difference is the climate, which can change suddenly from a beautiful day to rain in a moment.

"We are always wet here, at home and at training. I live 20 minutes from the training ground, arriving in the morning and I work until 6 or 7pm. As in Naples and Milan, in fact. When I do my job, the place, the city has little impact."

The Hornets boss had spent 15 years as a coach in Italy before making the switch to England, and he believes his relationship with owner Pozzo, as well as the passionate English fans, were key to his move.

"For at least five reasons," he continued. "The first: with [Watford owner Giampaolo] Pozzo there had been three or four contacts in the past, but for one reason or another we had never been able to work together.

"He is an Italian president that shares my ideas about football. I was looking for a program that shared technical and club matters and here I found it. I can say that I had a couple of requests to work from the most prestigious clubs in the Premier League but I wanted the program, not just a seat on the bench, I wanted to work as I like.

"The second: in Italy I no longer had anything to prove to myself.

"The third: as a result I needed to find new stimuli.

"The fourth: when in the Champions League I coached against Chelsea and Manchester City....I was fascinated, indeed struck, by the atmosphere of the English stadiums, before and during the matches. Each Watford game I seem to feel the same adrenaline rush as in the Champions League.

"The fifth: today, the Premier is the most important league in the world, one with greater exposure, and if you do well here you can go anywhere."

Upon returning from the international break Watford will host title-holders Leicester City before facing Stoke the following weekend.
