Liverpool have developed an interest in young Bayer Leverkusenwinger Julian Brandt, and are believed to be in the process of scouting him.

He is also thought to be a January target for the Anfield club, but according toGoal, Jurgen Klopp wants to pursue him in the summer instead, and even that is dependent on the situation at the material time.

Klopp is already anticipating the departure of star signing Sadio Mane, who will be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

But that had already been calculated during the summer, and the boss is expecting to get on without the Senegalese attacker just fine - unless, of course, injuries don't hamper his push.

The Reds will still have the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Sheyi Ojo as options to call upon.

Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum, another summer signing, can also be pushed higher up, and given Klopp's willingness to fit players in unusual slots - James Milner for example - there shouldn't be much of a problem.

Klopp has tasked his scouting team to compile potential signings in the event of an injury, but that doesn't suggest that there will be a definite new face coming in in January.

Brandt, meanwhile, is really impressing this season. The 20-year-old showed great maturity playing against RB Leipzig in the Bundesligaon Friday, scoring one goal and assisting another, also taking away the Man of the Match award.

His only weakness lies on the defensive side of the game, but he says that it's something he's working on at the moment.
